Bridge is a mind sport played with four people in two partnerships. Players sit opposite each other at the table, and based on their hands, they select a trump suit and bid the number of tricks they expect to take. The person who makes the highest bid wins the auction and determines the trump suit; their partner lays down their hand (the dummy) and yields control to them.
The game is played with a 52-card deck, and every card has a trick-taking power. The rank of the cards from highest to lowest is Ace (A), King (K), Queen (Q), Jack (J), 10, 9, 8, ... 2. Players take turns playing a card; the highest card played of the suit led wins that trick. If a player has no cards of the led suit, they may play a card from another suit; if a trump is played, the highest trump wins the trick.
After a total of 13 tricks, scores are calculated based on the contract (the bid) and the number of tricks taken. The hands are not shuffled but are played at other tables, and the partnerships' performances are compared and evaluated. Thus, the players' success is determined by their strategy and skill, rather than luck.
We are the Boğaziçi University Bridge Club, a group of students who share a passion for bridge.
Our club brings together those who love this classic game of intellect, offering them the opportunity to learn and develop their bridge skills, from beginner to advanced levels since 1984.
Our goal is to unite students around a common hobby, develop ourselves along the way, and achieve success in both intercollegiate tournaments and those organized by various bridge clubs.
